tattoo after care

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CARE AND HEALING OF YOUR NEW TATTOO - 1

  • Within 1 or 2 hours of the completion of your tattoo please wash it with a liquid anti-bacterial soap. If using a bar soap please use the lather and not the bar itself. Many bar soaps contain abrasive additives.

  • After washing your tattoo, allow it to dry and then apply an even, but not excessive coat of either Vitamin A&D ointment or Bacitracin. If you can wipe off excess ointment, you have put too much on. Do NOT use Neosporin or Vaseline based products. The number of times that you should apply ointment throughout the course of the day is dependent on the dryness of your skin. Do not apply more than 3 to 5 coats a day and always make sure to wash the surface of the skin before applying a new coat.

  • After 5 to 7 days discontinue usage of the ointment. If skin dryness persists, use a hypoallergenic, unscented hand lotion, such as Lubriderm, or a vitamin based body oil to remoisten.

  • If during the course of the healing process the formation of scabs should occur. Do NOT pick them! This will remove pigment from the tattoo and increase the risk of scarring.

  • It is common for an itching sensation to occur as the skin knits itself together. Do NOT scratch! This will merely harm the tattoo and enhance the itching sensation. A light slap should do the trick.
